We are now officially traveling as a family band of four: two parents on guitar and backup, a toddler on lead vocals, and an infant on drums (3 mos. old). After a little trial and error, we’ve discovered a few things about flying with our children that may make it a little easier on our next excursions. We’ve traveled a fair amount with our firstborn (our toddler and lead singer), but vagabonding with two is a whole different ball of wax.

Months before September 11th, airlines were asking their employee groups to make wage and benefit cuts to help “save” the faltering companies. After September 11th, things only got worse. Thousands of airline employees have faced layoffs, job loss, or the insecurity of knowing that their jobs are not secure anymore. Airline executives, in order to avoid bankruptcy, have asked employees to take even more of a pay cut. After all: no company, no job. Some employees agreed to make concessions, others pointed out that other companies tried the same thing, and that didn’t save their employees jobs. There really was no choice.

We are into the latter part of summer, but that doesn’t mean many of us are not still traveling on vacations. Here are a few last minute tips to help you out.
First and foremost, figure out if you will need a passport for your trip. Recent regulation changes have been implemented that require you to have a passport to reenter the US from practically any country. This includes Mexico and Canada. The new regulation has led to a massive backlog, so make sure you have a current passport. If you need a new one, find out how long it will take and any exceptions that might apply to your destination.

Packing is an important part of your pre-trip planning. Leaving something behind may not be important if you’re heading off to a major destination where you can probably buy what you need. But travel well off the beaten-track (where the best adventures are usually found) and you could be in trouble.
Make sure you can easily identify you luggage. You can get something that has a unique colour or tie a coloured ribbon around the handle - anything that will make your stuff stand out from the crown. It will make it far easier to find in insode a mound of like coloured black backpacks or cases.
